The main trends of the exhibition CES 2020

Gs Shoro CES Technology fair

The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2020) begins on January 7th. A huge number of international corporations have signed up for the event, including even the most unexpected guests. So the exhibition promises to be extremely interesting. Here is the list of main trends of the annual consumer electronics show at Las Vegas.

Managing Gadgets with the Power of Thought (Wearable Device)

The French neurotechnological startup NextMind will bring a wearable device for reading thoughts to the exhibition. According to the developers, their tool allows you to instantly convert brain signals passing through the visual cortex into digital commands for almost any device. For example, it could be a computer or an AR / VR headset.

The device’s interface is also unique in that it works non-invasively - no punctures are required. It is enough to fix a small round gadget on the user's head.

French technology has enormous potential. According to this theory, it has every chance to radically change the usual methods of human interaction with smart devices. Besides, the development of NextMind can be useful for people with disabilities.

"Transparent hood" of the car

A familiar problem for many car drivers (especially beginners) - the hood partially obscures the view. People do not see the bumper and wheels of the car, so they touch the curbs or run into the pits. Technology may have found a solution.

The German Tyre manufacturer Company presents a transparent hood technology at CES 2020. The engineers did not replace metal with glass: they propose installing four cameras with a control unit on the car. An intelligent image processing algorithm, the images from all sensors and sends it to the display in the cabin of the driver. On it, the driver will be able to see in real-time what is under the front of his vehicle.

It turns out that the hood becomes invisible to the driver, at least on the screen. The developers of the system are confident that their technology will reduce the number of accidents and incidents of car damage in parking lots. CES organizers also see this as potential, having awarded the Continental Innovation Award even before the official start of the exhibition.

Frameless and folding TVs

It can be expected that this year CES will not be an exception: all the main Asian manufacturers of TV panels have already applied for participation.

For example, Samsung may introduce the new fully frameless TVs - the manufacturer recently registered such a trademark. Most likely, the devices will be made using proprietary QLED technology (pixels on such matrices do not fade for years).

LG is sure to show a new series of OLED TVs. The company can also voice the price of last year’s panel with a folding roll screen - nothing has been heard about the unusual concept since that time.

The Sharp (Japanese Company) is going to present a similar device - the Japanese have already patented TV with a very thin screen curled into a roll.

It is known that Sony will also participate in the event. According to The Rite Tutorials News the Japanese can upgrade their 950, 850, Z- and A-series televisions.

Likely, Panasonic will finally show its first 8K-TV. Manufacturers were going to do it again at IFA 2019, but something interfered with their plans.

Unexpected guests and privacy issues

In early December, it became known that Apple representatives would visit CES 2020 - for the first time in 27 years. The last time the Cupertinians appeared on CES back in 1992: then they showed a Newton handheld computer.

True, this time the company is not going to introduce new products. Instead, Apple executives will attend a private meeting. It will be about last year’s scandals related to the largest ever leaks of user data through Facebook and Google. In particular, government regulation of international corporations will be discussed at a round table.

Confidentiality of personal data remains one of the most serious problems in the modern world - only in the first half of 2019 the amount of "merged" user information increased by 22% compared to the same period last year. Therefore, large companies need to ensure data privacy.

Digital healthcare

The topic of health is relevant everywhere, even at CES. This year we are waiting for at least a few interesting announcements in the field of medicine.

Representatives of Humana insurance company will talk about their new Studio H division, which uses modern technologies to improve the health of customers. For example, now insurers are actively investing in telemedicine and remote monitoring and data analysis services. In particular, the unit is developing an application that, based on artificial intelligence, will be able to predict the correct diagnoses in advance and thereby save lives.

Another expected announcement will please people who have hearing problems. CES will showcase the world's most powerful Oticon Xceed hearing aid. This device scans the sound waves around a person about 100 times per second and also uses advanced signal processing technologies to improve the perception of speech and other sounds. He has already received an award in the Health and Wellness category from the organizers of the exhibition.

5G ultra-high-speed mobile Internet and smart cities

We can say with confidence that 5G will again become one of the main topics at the CES 2020 exhibition. In many countries, fifth-generation networks are already operational; in others, operators are just beginning to test their commissioning. One way or another, very soon the ultra-high-speed mobile Internet will become available to millions of people. So, the speakers simply will not be able to ignore a high-profile topic.

Naturally, the issue of smart cities remains on the agenda. For example, the organizers planned a discussion on how the growth of smart settlements will affect politics, transport, industry and the planet as a whole. World leaders in the field of the Internet of things, unmanned vehicles, artificial intelligence, and data analysis will share their opinions.

Thin laptops and discrete graphics

The microprocessor manufacturer has already presented a project for creating thin and light notebooks Project Athena, and at the CES 2020 exhibition, the company shows a new development from this area. It will become a technology that can improve laptop cooling by 25-30%. The innovation of the method lies in the fact that traditional thermal modules were replaced by evaporation chambers, and instead of radiators, graphite sheets were installed (they are behind the screen).

It turns out that laptop manufacturers will be able to create powerful and thin devices without the use of fans. At CES 2020, Intel partners will demonstrate devices made using the new technology.

The company may also bring samples of the first discrete 10-nm DG1 graphics processor to CES 2020 Las Vegas.

If you believe the news, the new discrete graphics cards based on DG1 will become a budget solution, because their performance will increase by only 23% compared to the integrated GPU in Tiger Lake processors.

Cloud gaming

NVIDIA has not yet announced its plans for CES 2020, so it will not have an official conference at the exhibition - we will probably not see the next generation of GeForce video cards. But NVIDIA can withdraw its streaming service GeForce Now from the "beta" stage.

Budget laptops on ARM

In December 2019, manufacturers announced the release of two ARM processors Snapdragon 7c and 8c, designed for Windows laptops, entry-level and intermediate levels. In other words, these chips will be used in lightweight and inexpensive computers that are suitable for working with documents, Internet surfing and simple photo processing - the most undemanding tasks.

We expect Qualcomm to show the first partner devices equipped with new ARM processors. These laptops will have constant access to a 4G or 5G network, also, they should work longer on a single charge - the chipsets consume less power and do not get very hot.

Laptops with unusual screens

Dell representatives confirmed old rumors about the imminent release of a folding device with two screens. Prototypes already existed in 2017 - this means that working prototypes can be shown very soon. True, while the engineers do not disclose the details. There is a possibility that the veil of secrecy will finally be opened at the upcoming exhibition.

This year MSI intends to show the world's first laptop with a mini-LED display. The advantage of the technology is increased brightness and contrast, also, the backlight is implemented more efficiently. It is divided into zones with the independent adjustment: the screen can reflect both bright light shades and deep black color. Another well-known feature is a brightness of 100 nits, support for the DCI-P3 color gamut and the DisplayHDR 1000 standard. 17-inch screen diagonal. The rest of the details will be presented at the presentation.

Traditionally, the exhibition is visited by other laptop manufacturers, including ASUS and HP. But there is no information about what they are going to present this year.

Cars of the future

Nissan in 2020 approached the exhibition non-standard: the company promised to share a vision of future technologies in the field of engineering. The Japanese will show several exhibits that will have to affect the five human senses. But the most interesting part of the presentation is the Nissan Ariya concept car. This is an electric crossover with zero emissions. It is equipped with two engines (one for each axis).

The cabin is designed for five people, the buttons inside the minimum: most controls are integrated into a 12.3-inch display. The car supports the autonomous control system Pro Pilot 2.0.

Nissan also promised to demonstrate the new Formula E electric car and a modification of the legendary LEAF with e +. The latter received an improved battery (range increased from 286 to 400 km) and an electric motor of increased capacity (from 150 to 215 hp).
